Once again we explore the Antarctic area
In 2025, one of the initiated tasks of the State Geological Survey is the project entitled ‘Pilot work in the vicinity of the H. Arctowski and Carlini polar stations - testing and integration of research methods. Phase I’. The aim is to fill in the gaps in the geological recognition of the northern part of the South Shetland Islands, i.e. Nelson Island, King George Island, Elephant Island and several minor islands in the area.
PIG–PIB at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada – PDAC 2025 Convention
From March 2 to 5, 2025, the PDAC 2025 Convention took place in Toronto. This was the 93rd edition of this major mining event, bringing together thousands of geologists and miners involved in the exploration and extraction of mineral resources worldwide. The employees of the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute (PIG–PIB) were also present.
Application of the optical fibre distributed temperature sensing method (OF DTS) to assess geothermal conditions
In 2024, the National Geological Institute - NRI and NORCE Norwegian Research Centre completed the project Optimization of Shallow Geothermal Energy Resources for Green Transition OptiSGE. The aim of the project was to strengthen the energy transition by applying and comparing research methods for assessing geothermal potential, which are important for the location of geothermal installations and the optimization of their technical parameters.
We are modernising and developing the national groundwater monitoring system
The Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute (PGI-NRI) has started a project called FEnIKS_Inwestycje (FEnIKS_Investments) to modernise and develop the national groundwater monitoring system.
